good point ..I do invest in stocks / ETF's and funds ...but I would definitely say ..stay away from day trading !!! be diversified, invest in good companies (invest only pocket money/minor amount in very risky assets) and for the long term ..i.e. you should not need that money during emergencies ..STAY AWAY from all day trading software !!! and if you cannot take losses (or are happy with normal returns) ...stay away from stocks (except for a small portfolio/ 401 etc) completely

Depends on lot of factors. I have been trading for last 10 years. I don't trade stocks. I trade index futures sp500 and Nasdaq mini. It is short term - couple of hours to maximum couple of days. Day Trading requires good analytical skills for technical charts and lot of discipline to follow enter and exit rules.
Taxes are computed differently for futures trading. You will need this IRS form (6781 Gains and Losses From Section 1256 Contracts and Straddles) to file your taxes for trading futures.

I agree. They are mostly snake oil. I suggest - do some reading and follow some indicators and come up with Trading Strategy. It is recommended to do paper trading before starting trading with real money.

I guess chance for 1st and 2nd option are high. And, this would answer Ramba's question how EB3 for India would get approval for PD 2003. There are very few 2001 PDs left (per me). Relatively more 2002 and most of 2001 and 2002 are pending due to name check else they would have got their GC during July and USCIS would not have returned VISA numbers back to DOS nor some numbers would have finally got wasted (FY2007).
So next PD would be 2003 (and there are very few 2003 filings that were filed before June 2007).

1) Permit extension and stamping within the US and not required to travel abroad. A real pain and wastage of resourse for no practical purpose.

Finally after the third "card production" email (June 23rd, July 15th, July 29th) i got the card today valid for one year. I efiled on April 27th. My PD is April 2006 EB2. So i guess thats why got only for one year.

My PD is 31st march...so u will get the good news shortly. Minimum on my PERM were 7 yrs or Masters + 3 yrs
My EB-2 PERM got approved as well last week. MS + 6 yrs or BS + 8 yrs, S/W research engineer in mobile communications R&D. I work for a very large company (400k+ employees) and the attorneys were almost certain that my case will be audited. I am glad it was not audited because of high exp requirements that my job requires.

So, from what I read in this thread:
* EB2 (India/China) may not have MANY cases with PD earlier than 2005 as only after retrogression (in 2005), EB2 started piling up.
* Most 2001/2002 EB3 cases are approved (in June/July/August 2007) and they may be still receiving approvals off numbers reserved for them in June/July 2007. Hence, the natural movement for EB3 to 2003 in the near future.
* If most of the EB3 cases filed in June/Juy are not processed by USCIS by next June (2008), then PD may become current during the last quarter of FY 2008 (or atleast to end of 2006). If enough cases are approved (and pending for VISA numbers), then it may move only to 2004 or early 2005.
* EB2 - same logic as above - it may become current or move to early 2006.

The Senate's bill provides a pathway to citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants already in the country, and includes a guest-worker program. It is surprising (rather shocking) to see how a discussion on an EB bill (which might never see the light of day anyway) has degenerated into an oft-repeated rant on how IV does not represent EB3.
When I meet with my lawmaker's office (and when I again meet in Feb), I repeat the IV provisions which are for ALL EB and not any specific category/country. THe problem with EB3 is the with the way the EB system/inventory is set-up. It is stupid to convert a chronic issue into a "IV is not trying" debate. As always, we have lots of armchair critics and few grass-roots workers.

Meeting a lawmaker with the support of IV behind you is not a reflection of a big effort on your side. The power behind that is IV. Now for me or any other EB3 to meet a law maker is not something i would consider an effort since EB3 are willing to put the same effort which you are putting only if they believein what they are doing. To believe a person needs to feel that they are working for a cause that will impact their situation. Sadly this is missing and that is why EB3 people are cool about the whole meet the law maker process
Regarding the statement I repeat the IV provisions which are for ALL EB and not any specific category/country. THe problem with EB3 is the with the way the EB system/inventory is set-up. What specific steps has IV articulated to resolve the specific issue of EB3
By your own definition this is a chronic issue and what we are taught is that any issue which is chronic needs to be redressed and when it is not it becomes a big issue which cannot be handled

I quoted a fact (rational and valid) to argue your assumptions. I never even claimed to know what USCIS would do and how they would present the data. It was you who presented a theory to justify that we should not go with any change in the spill over. I want to know why you dont want EB3I not to proceed with this measure. Is it because you believe it will take away numbers from EB2 or EB3I is doomed with plenty of cases and any amount will not make any changes. I believe its perhaps the earlier than the later. See, we all have our needs and we all want to look for ourselves first (including you and me). Its basic human nature. We all can generate obfuscatory facts to push our agenda. The GOVT should state that those who apply for H1 should make it mandatory for the employees to be in US within 30 - 45 days of obtaining US Visas and be present in US on employment in continous increments of 1 year. And they need to show pay stubs continously.
- Then we can easily filter out WIPRO, Infosys, Consulting company from misusing. For example Wipro will apply 5000 H1s and then send people when they eventually get a project, out of 5000, may be 1000 may show up in 6 months. So In this case 4000 H1s can get invalid. Indian companies find it sending people overseas is expensive business and would enjoy offshoring projects. If the govt makes this rule, consulting companues will be forced to start paying H1 folks from Day 1, no bench period, plus "Candidates need to show up in person immdlty in US". We kill 2 birds with 1 stone. 1, dummy H1s will not be applied, 2, if they approve H1s then they have to send engineers immdlty for which they may not be really ready, since they only anticipate projects and may not need so many H1s right away !...
